MCAT Exam step-by-step score, report registration guide in UK, Australia and Canada

MCAT Exam step-by-step score, report registration

What is MCAT in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

It was created and conducted by association of American medical colleges (A A M C) as a standardized, multiple-choice examination.

It was developed to help medical school admissions offices assess problem solving, critical thinking and knowledge of natural, behavioral, and social science concepts and principles pre-requisite to the study of medicine.

How long will I have to wait until I can re-take the MCAT exam in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

Normally, it takes about 24 hours to update your account to prove that you have taken an exam.

Then, you can register for any available appointment that isn’t passed the bronze zone deadline. (8 days before the exam date)

P S - You can only register for one exam at a time.

How is the MCAT exam scored in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

It's scaled and equated so that scores have the same meaning, no matter when you test.

The association of American medical colleges (A A M C) has a lot of things they consider before scoring your exam.

A A M C counts the number of questions answered correctly.

The scores that you achieve on the four (4) scored multiple-choice sections are based on the number of questions you answer correctly.

Wrong answers are scored exactly the same way as an unanswered question and there isn’t an additional penalty for wrong answers.

A A M C take the number of correct answers (i.e. raw scores) and convert them to a scaled score for each section.

Raw scores from each of these four (4) sections are converted to a scaled score ranging from 118 (lowest) to 132 (highest).

For example, if your number correct on one of the sections is between 35 and 37, your converted scaled score might be 123.

Number correct ranging from 46 to 48 might have a converted scaled score of 128 and forth.

Why don’t A A M C give a raw score on test day or on your score report instead of converting to scaled scores in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

There are many different forms administered, any one of which you could see on your exam day.

The different forms of the exam are designed to measure the same basic concepts and skills but each form contains different sets of questions.

While care is taken to make sure that each form is about equivalent in difficulty, one form may be slightly more or less difficult than another.

The conversion of number correct scores to scaled scores, through a process called equating.

This equating compensates for small variations in difficulty between sets of questions.

The exact conversion of number correct to scaled scores is not constant because each conversion is designed to the specific set of questions included on a test form.

The scaled score, reported on a 15-point scale, tends to provide a more stable and accurate assessment of a student’s performance than the number correct score.

Two (2) students with equal preparation who answered different sets of questions would be expected to get the same scaled score, even though there might be a slight difference between the numbers correct scores each student obtained on their test form.

A A M C does this to ensure that scores have the same meaning across test administrations and testing years.

Is the MCAT exam scored on a curve in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

It's not graded on a curve.

It's scaled and equated so that scores have the same meaning, no matter when you test or who tests at the same time you did.

P S - there may be small differences in the form of the exam you took compared to another examinee because you answered different sets of questions.

The scoring process is what accounts for these differences.

How long does it take to receive MCAT scores in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

A A M C scales and equates each exam after each test day.

This scaling and equating takes 30 to 35 days.

The scaling and equating process is done to account for small differences in the difficulty of test questions when A A M C convert the number of questions you answer correctly to the score scale.

At this moment, students are allowed to submit any concerns they have about exam questions or testing conditions so that A A M C can investigate and examine each concern.

How do I understand my percentile ranks in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

The percentile ranks provided on your score report show the percentages of test-takers who received the same scores or lower scores on the exam than you did.

They show how your scores compare to the scores of other examinees.

How do I void the MCAT exam without the medical schools knowing in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

Medical schools can’t access your Score Reporting System.

The only person that can access your Score Reporting System is you.

P S - void and no-shows count as an attempt toward your testing limits.

How are multiple MCAT scores used in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

Medical schools use multiple sets of Scores in several ways.

These several ways are as follows -

  • Most schools compare the scores equally and observe the improvements.

  • Some schools consider only the latest set of scores.

  • Still others take an average of all sets of scores.

  • Some schools use only the highest set of scores or the highest individual sections scores.

How do I send my MCAT scores to non-American Medical College Application Service (A M C A S) schools in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

There are two (2) ways of sending your scores to a non-A M C A S school namely -

  1. Electronically, scores are sent through your Score Reporting System portal.
  2. Mailing a copy of your official score report

Can I re-score my MCAT exam
in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

If you notice any score fault while sending your score, then you may request that your exam be re-scored by hand.

The re-scored result will be sent to you as a letter.

This response write-up will either confirm that your original scores were correct as reported or inform you of the corrected scaled scores of each test section.

P S - Your raw scores will not be disclosed.

If I took the MCAT exam prior to April 2015, how long can I submit my scores in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?

The association of American medical colleges (A A M C) will continue to report Test scores from the 1991 version through the 2019 A M C A S application cycle.

However, whether medical schools will continue to accept these scores through the 2020 A M C A S application cycle will depend on the individual medical school.

Will medical schools see every MCAT exam score, no matter what year I took it in United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada?
